I also did the graphics for the marketing material last week.

A bird that just hopped out of the forest on N. Changshan Island, Shandong Province, China.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Opteka 500mm Reflector

A clover field near my grandparent’s house, in Shandong Province, China. It says something when memories of going home blends in with “Traveling”.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR

Along a few astronomer friends of mine, I visited the Chile / European Very Large Telescope in the Atacama Desert. In this photo you can see the sodium laser VLT uses for optical adjustments, a passing satellite, and a meteor.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G

Many American theoretical physicists meet annually in Big Sur, California. I didn’t qualify as one when I drove there alone and took this photo, but I now understand why this tiny spot of the Pacific Coast is one of their favorite summer retreat spots.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR

I was passing by Seoul on a long layover in late January, 2020. COVID was already reported in the city, and people were unaware of how the world would change in the ensuing months.

Our rental car parked on the outskirts of the Chilean capital city, and just in front of the Andes mountains. Jeep never responded to my email sharing this photo with them.

I was queuing for dinner when I looked back and saw the Campanile (UC Berkeley’s clock tower) bathed in sunset’s golden light. Lights from the greater San Francisco Bay Area can be seen in the background. Why I went to dinner (immediately after real analysis class) with my camera is still a mystery.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR

Another brief layover city tours. For how many times I used Shanghai to transit to or from Auckland, this is the only time I got out of the airport.
Equipment: Apple iPhone 7 Plus

Flying away from Las Vegas, Nevada, I saw the famously long and boring US Interstate highway carving its way out of the desert hills.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR

Taken on my last day studying at UC Berkeley, and I had just left behind my secret tokens in the physics building before driving off to Sonoma County. This grapevine-covered hill was captured by another photographer from the same angle some 20 years before me. That photo became the default wallpaper of Windows XP. By the time I’d visited, Microsoft had already stopped supporting that operating system.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR

The total solar eclipse over Chile and Argentina in early July 2019. All week’s travel for two minutes of totality, but it still feels like yesterday.
Equipment: Nikon D810 + Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8

My hometown Jinan has some of the widest and longest tunnels in the Eurasian continent. The majority of which were dug after I’d moved to NZ.
