Copenhagen Photo Journal Addendum: the Gaza Grill

To be fair this “addendum” is a misnomer as the main journal is delayed and not yet public. I’m visiting again on official physics business soon. So there’s that.

I need to confront my biases when I least expect — that’s kinda a main game of life as I realise.

It was 26 Oct and I was hopping around Copenhagen on my rented bike. Near the University I glanced across the following store.

Owing to the previous years of conflicts and dire footages of the aftermaths of aerial bombing and such, I immediately assumed this was a bad joke in the name. How naive.

I went to do some research about this place upon returning to hotel and realised this restaurant is a proper place run by Palestinian expats recreating authentic recipes. They also commit to sharing revenue with humanitarian relief efforts in the region. My initial impression was all wrong.

At the end of this intense but nevertheless brief short episode of thought, I wish to remark the following about myself.

For however long I’ve been picturing parts of the world as abstract concepts strung together with sensational and bold-lined news titles, Gaza here as a particular example. They are all origins of people. Origins of someone’s understanding of and efforts to influence the world. All are places one ought to be proud to call home.

I had my final meal of the trip there. They have great falafels.
