#INTRO
Unfamiliar streets
Hum beneath my steps
Lights flicker on —
Like they'll remember
#VERSE
Some journeys end here
Some begins anew
Years receding
But I never learned what to do
#CHORUS
I am not what you needed
I am not what you sought
Lost between these walls
Still standing
#BRIDGE
A hundred thousand miles
Into the night sky
We leave behind all "ever afters"
#VERSE
Some journeys end here
Some begins anew
Quiet whispers
How I wish I could share them with you!
#CHORUS
Bis wir uns wiedersehen (I am not what you needed)
In einer anderen Zeit (I am not what you sought)
Erinnerst du mich (Echoes in your eyes)
Weit und still (Chasing after...)
#VERSE
Some journeys end here
Some begins anew
No one's waiting
But I never will forget you
#HOOK
Oħ
#CHORUS
Sei mein Stern
Bis der Morgen erwacht
Trag uns sicher
Auf Flügeln der Nacht
#OUTRO
Fade to blue
Fade to blue
Fade to blue
#OUTRO
Fade to blue
Is that true?
Fade to blue
Fade too
After years of hanging around the electronic music world as Iridium Point, I’ve released my first track with vocals. While I have sung some of my songs privately a few times this year (ask nicely, and I WILL drunkenly perform ‘Farewell, San Francisco’ or ‘Afar’), Vienna is the first time I’ve included vocals in a release you can stream or purchase.
That said, I still lean toward the instrumental version—it’s closer to my heart. The vocals weren’t as polished as I’d hoped (my last formal voice training was in middle school), but releasing this song felt imperative. It was time to move forward.
The chorus came to me during my overnight Autobahn drive from Vienna back to Göttingen in September, coinciding with storms and flooding along the Danube. A few weeks later, jet-lagged and sleepless in Tauranga during my graduation trip, I entered the melody into Klimper, a mobile app I use to explore chord progressions and craft melodies. From there, the project grew over ten Sunday nights and through my evening jogs, which I’ll resume when it gets warm again. Promise.
So, give it a listen, share it, and maybe one day I’ll recover the cost of that Austrian Autobahn toll through streaming revenue.
Not a love song, beyond a love song, Vienna is a seedling, fictionalised introspection. It tells a story of confusion, growth, and hope for the journeys ahead.
AI Disclosure: Drum and some bass lines played by Apple’s bots, not that the drum lines are any good …
